Theme: “Ebbs and Flows”

Our 2023 conference theme is an invitation to consider how
anthropology has been involved in charting the coming and going
of peoples, institutions, political claims, and frames of reference in
Latin America and the Caribbean. "Ebbs and Flows" draws attention
to the uncertainty that accompanies transitions, as well as
frustrations with interruptions to change: the snags, the jams, the
bottlenecks. We will engage with how ebbs and flows describe our
empirical projects, methods, and intellectual debates.

Abstracts: SLACA invites theoretical and empirical analyses that address
these themes in Latin America and the Caribbean. We encourage
abstracts examining the ebbs and flows of political transitions;
processes of peace and reconciliation; migration; climate impacts;
and racial, ethnic, class, and gender politics.
Travel awards:
We extend a special invitation to our Colombian colleagues to
participate. A limited amount of funding is available for Colombian
scholars to travel to Cartagena from elsewhere in the country to
present at the conference.

Conferencia bienal SLACA 2023
“Ires y Venires”

15 al 17 de marzo de 2023, Cartagena, Colombia, en la Universidad de Cartagena

Tema: El tema de nuestra conferencia de 2023 es una invitación a
considerar cómo la antropología se ha involucrado en trazar el ir y
venir de los pueblos, las instituciones, los reclamos políticos y los
marcos conceptuales en América Latina y el Caribe. El enfoque "ires
y venires" se centra en la incertidumbre que acompaña a las
transiciones, así como en las frustraciones que emergen de las
interrupciones al cambio: los inconvenientes, los atascos, los cuellos de botella. Nos enfocaremos en cómo estos ires y venires afectan
nuestros proyectos empíricos, métodos y debates intelectuales.
Resumenes: SLACA invita a presentar análisis teóricos y empíricos que aborden estos temas en América Latina y el Caribe. Alentamos la entrega de resúmenes que aborden los ires y venires de las transiciones
políticas; los procesos de paz y reconciliación; la migración; los
impactos climáticos; y las políticas raciales, étnicas, de clase y de
género.

Premios de viaje: Extendemos una invitación especial a nuestras/os colegas colombianas/os para que participen. Un monto limitado de
financiamiento está disponible para que investigadores
colombianas/os viajen a Cartagena desde otras partes del país para
presentar en la conferencia.
